What if war broke out over the death of a patriarch? What if one brother, taking his lead from the biblical story of Esau and Jacob, stole his brother's birthright in the same manner and split the kingdom in two? What if the queen you loved secretly loved another and the child you thought was yours was not? Would you stop the war and reveal the lie? Would you kill the queen and put your son to death? These are the questions and entanglements that "Clown" must answer and unwind in the musical fairy tale "Way Back When" The Tale of the Clown from Pollis Minor.

At the start we meet "Clown", a court jester from the old kingdom of Pollis before it was split in two. Now he rides back and forth between the two opposing kingdomes trying to mend what was once whole. Only cunning, skill and outright manipulation of men, their hearts and God can make that happen and "Clown" is the person for it.

With the end of the war his catalyst and the love of two young souls (a Prince and a common maid) as his guide, he forges forth to uncover a most incredible secret, which if revealed would have dire consequences for both kingdoms! Huzzah!!

"2008 Winner - Musical" Chameleon Theatre Circle's Tenth Annual New Play Contest!

Bridget’s trying to get started on her sculpture.  She has this beautiful piece of marble standing in the middle of her studio, but every time she raises her chisel to begin work, something interferes.  A memory pops into her head, maybe something one of her parents said that makes her lose confidence, or she gets a call about her daughter, Annie, being seen ditching school again, or Richard, her husband, needs to express his frustration with work.  Then there’s the sexy painter down the hall, Jimmy, who has come back into her life, suggesting new possibilities, and causing even more distraction.  

In the past, Bridget got caught up in using her art to express her feelings about the whole gender thing.  There were the giant household appliances, the reptiles with human faces, the Medusa-like figure devouring the ram, but none of that work was taken seriously.  Her plan now is to make a sculpture in the Classical style, of the wood nymph, Daphne, transformed into a tree by her father to protect her from the advances of Apollo.  Annie still thinks this one is about being angry at men and wonders how her mother can make something beautiful when she’s angry.

Richard feels threatened by Bridget’s new studio and all the time she’s spending there.  He accuses her of not doing enough for Annie, of not giving her the kind of summer a kid deserves.  As if Bridget didn’t feel guilty enough, what with her sister, Lucy, cooking up ways to lure Annie away and making Bridget feel deficient as a mother, not to mention the designs Lucy has on Richard.  And now Lucy’s threatening to move to Portland, just when their parents are becoming more dependant and the six months Bridget has to finish her sculpture is steadily ticking away. 

Isabel, the beautiful model, suddenly remembers in the middle of posing for Bridget that she has to pick up her son, but knows Bridget will understand because she’s a mother, too.  Models don’t flake out on Jimmy, and he gets to paint whenever he wants, at 2 a.m., on Christmas morning.  But, then, he doesn’t have a daughter and he can’t seem to hold on to a wife.

Bridget decides to take Annie’s suggestion and not make the statue of a girl becoming a tree, but to give her wings, so she can fly away.  Annie agrees to model in place of Isabel and in doing so, meets Mr. Bonini’s son, Alberto.  Annie goes off with Alberto, Richard flirts with Isabel, and Bridget ends up posing for Jimmy.  How did that happen? 

Damn, everyone’s always trying to mess her up and turn her around and keep her from working on her girl.  Or, maybe it’s all in her head and she’s holding herself back.

Based in part on the biblical books of Daniel and Revelation “This Time and Age” takes an ambitious look at the destiny of Mankind through the lens of a Judeo-Christian perspective and weaves a tales of intrigue, narrated by one of the Bibles most mysterious characters, Melchizedek.

This is an age old conflict between good and evil with the destiny of millions dependent upon the choices of a few human beings. Melchizedek sets the mood as he proclaims:
